Hi Henderson,

I want you to know how memorable and precious our masterclass at your studio was for me. I have been wanting to return to painting for a while and have not had the courage/confidence to pick up the brush. Thank you. I love my turtle and my practice piece!  I must seek the time with awesome teachers like you when I am at home.  Thank you for your individual attention, patience, and for pushing me past my frustrations into the joy of art!

Highest regards,

wydney, Turks And Caicos Islands - January 20, 2017

I admire your work

Shelly Ware, Norway - June 7, 2016

My daughter and I booked a class on batik making in May (2016) while visiting Barbados. Brilliant class, Mr. Reese was an excellent instructor/teacher. Highly recommend this activity.... Lovely art work as a sovereign to take home! Great value.....

Bob and Jane Sanders, United Kingdom - March 24, 2016

We spent a fabulous day with you and felt we learnt such a lot. Batik is a fascinating art and we are so pleased we did it.
You and your ladies were wonderful, you encouraged us so much! Nothing was too much trouble .
The setting was fabulous , the views over the island wonderful.
We will definitely come and spend another day with you when we visit again. We will also recommend you to our friends who visit Barbados every year.
Thank you for helping us to create a wonderful memory from our holiday.

Dear Henderson, Happy New Year to you!

We had a wonderful experience with you and Veronica at the Batik Studio Workshop in December.  Despite the fact that neither of us had drawn since leaving school (which was a long time ago!) with your excellent help and guidance we both managed to produce reasonable batik prints.  If you remember, we are planning to make a couple of our designs up into cushion covers for our grandchildren.  It was a great, fun and unusual way to enjoy some quality Bajan time during our holiday - with lunch and refreshments thrown in!

Best regards, Kay and Nick.

In a perfect place for an artist's studio Henderson patiently guided me through the process of batik, giving me many tips along the way. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and my "masterpiece", a fantasy fish will be framed as in a ship's porthole.
Thank you Henderson.

Pauline - October 18, 2015

Hello Henderson, Thought you might like to see the end product of one of my projects. The chattel house one is still to be framed. Really enjoyed my time with you and hope to see you again if we come to Barbados next Feb.

Many thanks.

Larry and Carol, United States - October 11, 2015

Dear Henderson,  Thank you for the opportunity to purchase the beautiful batik from you.  I am in the process of matting and framing it.  Every island we visit we purchase a unique piece of art and treasure every one of them.  Thanks for drawing us the map to the Orchid World.  You are truly a fine ambassador for your island.  Everyone we met was so friendly and helpful.  If we return to Barbados we will visit you again.  God bless you and your island.  Larry and Carol.

Dennis - May 18, 2015

Hi Henderson, Just wanted to thank you again. We had your Batik mounted and it was delivered today. My wife and I plan to order another piece soon. Please keep up the excellent work. Thanks again and continued success. Kerry & I received our Batik this morning. It looks absolutely wonderful. Thank you for your professionalism and promptness. Your an example of our motto Pride & Industry. Thanks again!

Took the opportunity to take Henderson Reece's batik class while on vacation in Barbados. His studio is located adjacent to the Earthworks Pottery - a breezy hillside location with fabulous views of the island. Henderson is not only a talented artist but a kind and patient teacher.

Class sizes are small so you get lots of individual attention. I have no formal art training but it didn't seem to matter. Henderson helped me with the charcoal sketch for my "masterpiece" and the fun began. We then had a demonstration on working with the wax pen (Tjanting) and practiced on a sample piece.

Henderson provided some excellent suggestions on dye colours and blending. We added a second layer of wax and dye and we left my piece to dry. Henderson delivered the finished piece (sans wax) to my hotel. Class fees include a delicious lunch at the cafe upstairs. I left Barbados with a unique island souvenir and a great memory of a wonderful day. Thanks, Henderson! You are the best!

Wallace, United States - March 20, 2015

We love the flying fish batik we purchased from you. It hangs in a place of honor in our dinning room (across from a colorful Britto we also love). With the deep red walls in the back and the light from the window, sometimes the batik seems to light up and glow (we did not put glass over it but left it framed and accessible).. however, the attached photo, tho not great quality, shows an interesting contrast between the warmth of Barbados in your artwork and the blizzard of snow piling up outside here in New York.

It keeps us warm and thinking of Barbados - thank you.

Sarah Krygier, United Kingdom - January 26, 2015

I attended the 1 Day Batik Workshop in January 2015 along with my mother-in-law Ann and we had such a fantastic day! I can not recommend this workshop enough and I encourage anyone who is thinking about doing this to DO IT! Henderson is a great teacher, very patient and he even coaxed artistic talent out of Ann (a self-confessed non-arty person). We are both 'over the moon' with our creations and we will treasure them! The workshop is set in such a beautiful location you can't help but be inspired. The cafe upstairs has wonderful views and the lunch was lovely. Tuition, all materials, lunch and refreshments was included. All in all, it was a wonderful day, thank you Henderson! I hope to see you again, next year! Regards Sarah

Jasmine, United Kingdom - January 19, 2015

Can't wait to come back and make another!

Kathryn Zander, Canada - January 13, 2015

A few of us decided to do Henderson's Batik workshop this year, and we are so happy we did, it is definitely one of our best memories! Henderson is such a genuine person and went above and beyond to ensure we had the best experience possible. It's hard to do the workshop justice with a written review, but everything was truly fantastic, from the outdoor studio and beautiful countryside view; to dipping our Tjantings in hot wax to make those first markings, to the excitement of seeing our completed pieces, it was so much fun learning about Batik and having the opportunity to get to know Henderson. We came away with some beautiful artwork, many great memories and a new appreciation for Batik art.

Thank you so much Henderson!!!

Susan, United States - December 10, 2013

Loved your work. Will definitely order something when able!!

Karen, None - December 4, 2013

Dear Hendy,

Just a little note to say thank you very much for mounting our lovely batik onto a framework, and also for being so kind to deliver it to us at home on Saturday. We are so thrilled with it - every time we look at it we see different bits, and love the humor of the turtle poking his head up through the water to look at the flying fish! Very clever!

Looking forward to seeing you again before we go home, and then again in March.

Ruth Butler, United States - February 27, 2013

Great work.

Judy Magahay, Canada - December 28, 2012

We so enjoyed your masterclass of batik art. What a memorable day! We have our masterpieces framed, one at home and one in our apartment in Barbados. The practice pieces have been beautifully quilted, by Julia, into pillows for our grandchildren, who love them. See you next year for more of the same!

This is a beautiful website, Hendy, & 'user friendly'! Lovely photos. We'll see you again soon. Best regards.

Leslee and Jessie J, Canada - October 26, 2012

My daughter Jessie did a workshop with Hendy on both of our two visits to Barbados. The piece she created is among her most prized possessions. The experience created lifetime memories which she will always treasure.

Your website is beautiful Hendy. We can hardly wait to visit you again!

Joslyn Sobers, United States - October 20, 2012

love your beautiful work Happy birthday

David, Allison, Katie & Alex, United Kingdom - October 13, 2012

Hi Hendy,

Your fabulous website has wetted our appetite for another piece of your stunning work to complement our growing collection. Our first piece was Saturday morning bought many years ago and the last piece which we commissioned in April 2010. (cricket - Father & Son)Unfortunataly, you were not there when we collected. However, it will be our 6th visit to Barbados (May 2013) which once again would be incomplete without a piece of your stunning work. David, Allison, Katie & Alex Clasen. p.s. will be in touch!

Charlotte Christian, United States - June 12, 2012

I took the workshop on a vacation to Barbados. Not only was it a lot of fun, but I enjoyed learning a new skill and learning about the history of the art. I would highly recommend it, though it would be best that the participant be at least an teenager, as the hot wax probably isn't the best for kids. It's a great experience and I found it very educational.

Peter Nash, United Kingdom - September 13, 2011

I see the flying fish picture on the wall when I wake up in the morning and often think of the great trips I have made to Barbados.

Visitors love the colours in the Cricket batik, they all say good things about it.

Linda Blades, United States - September 9, 2011

I'm Jennifer's mom - I have to agree with everything she said - it was a fantastic day! Just thinking about it brings a big smile to my face. And I absolutely LOVE my finished product. If you get the opportunity, please give yourself a real treat and take this workshop.

Jenn deRenzy, United States - July 16, 2011

My Mom and I did the batik workshop while we were in Barbados last week and can I just say that it was a highlight of our trip! We loved the class -- learned a ton -- and we loved Henderson and Veronica! In addition to being a very talented artist, Henderson was also a fantastic teacher. He went over every detail of the process with us so that I feel confident I could recreate the process at home.

The location was gorgeous -- an open air studio looking out over the valley, surrounded by beautiful island greenery and flowers. Lunch was lovely and everything tastes better when you are looking out on such a beautiful view! Our finished "masterpieces" were stunning! We were very impressed by how great they looked! :) And it was so much fun -- we laughed all day, and at the end of the day we had a gorgeous piece of Barbados to take home with us as well as the memories of a wonderful day. Best. Souvenir. EVER.

David Wayne Wilkins, United States - April 15, 2011

You do some really great work

Stephen Taylor, Canada - March 6, 2011

Henderson, it is always a pleasure to see you! I have been coming to Barbados for over 10 years and hold a special place for the island within me! Your Acrylic and Batik art is really special. It speaks of Barbados; it's people, the present and the past, but truly, of your creative abilities. Thank you for your genuine and engaging conversations over the years and especially for the art I have purchased from you. I hope all is well with you on the most beautiful Caribbean Island! Cheers!

Steve Ros Liz & Peter, United Kingdom - February 26, 2011

You are a fantastic teacher and we are all thrilled with our Batik creations. We are definitely coming back to do another day course in September. Thanks to Veronica for all of her help as well.

Hello Hendy,
just checking in with you - hope you are well old friend. We will be back in Barbados in the coming months and will for sure get by to see you - we love your work and plan to get more on our next visit.

Paolo, Belgium - September 29, 2010

Congratulations on the website Hendy - Cool!

Will you be putting up items for sale? Most of them seem to be sold.

Thanks, How is Belgium? Yes we will be adding more items, but they do sell so quickly. Send us your email and you can be notified when new artwork is added. If there is something you like which has been sold send us a request and have a similar composition commissioned.

Geoffrey Nugent, Canada - September 4, 2010

Congratulations on the site, Hendy. I bought my first piece from you when you were at the old Pelican Village complex; the next, from your Edghill studio. But now, via the web, my collection can continue even if I cannot get back to Barbados. Hooray! Like another customer on this site, your batiks are the focal point of my living room and, when the curtains are open, visible from the street... I have seriously wondered whether I may not be attracting the attention of thieves! Best of luck with this virtual vending venture!
