I spent a week in Barbados in February 2022, with my daughter, and decided to take the day workshop with Henderson. It was probably the most fun I had had, in a very long time. I have dabbled in silk fabric painting and watercolours, but left it far behind, as i had let working for a living get in the way of any artistic ability I might have. Henderson is such a good teacher and motivator. He has inspired me to tap into my artistic side. When i returned to Canada after that vacation, I tendered my resignation, and am excited to be on another journey, which will definitely be on the creative path. Thank you Henderson.

Thank you so much Henderson for reigniting and encouraging my passion for doing art. What a beautiful open outdoor flow room you have to be able to relax and settle into a mindset of creativity. I really enjoyed using all the variety of mediums from charcoal, to wax, to hand crackling, to paint brushing and rubber glove soaking the beautiful die colours. Thanks again Henderson for teaching new ways to see what lovely pieces can be made with your techniques. I look forward to purchasing one of your instruction books so I can practise it once again in my flow room at home.

I attended my third Batik class with Henderson last week (the other two were in 2019 and 2018). I had thought that I knew a lot about Batik this time around but probably learned more in this one than in the previous workshops combined. Two of my daughters accompanying me felt the same (both also attending in 2019). Thank you Henderson and also Veronica for another stimulating and (very) full day of Batik. The four of us thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and were all so surprised at how our efforts and your coaching and advice turned out such lovely pieces. We’ll be back for more.

Your gallery prints are amazing. I will always remember watching you work in your studio during our trips to Barbados. The two large prints we have from you are my favorite pieces in our collection of island art. My husband and I took Henderson's Batik Workshop in May 2019 while on vacation in Barbados and it was wonderful.
Henderson is a master at his craft. He's extremely talented, knowledgeable and very patient. My husband and I enjoyed the workshop tremendously and our art work came out beautifully. We actually just had our work framed and both pieces are proudly displayed. We went in to the workshop not knowing anything about batik art but we came out loving the techique and history.
If you're ever in Barbados definitely take this workshop.

I had a fantastic time at HP Batik learning all about Batik Art from its history to producing two pieces under the guidance of the Artist, Henderson Reece. This was an unique experience in Barbados and very hands on. The location is peaceful, beautiful and quite relaxing and it added that extra something to the workshop experience. There is also a gallery where Henderson’s work is on display, these are great pieces (from wall hangings to book marks) to take home as gifts. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit from the warm sunshine greeting from the host, the ambience, beautiful views, learning batik and how to blend the colours and best of all seeing the end product. I would definitely be recommending this experience to all my friends as a must when they visit Barbados

Thank you, Henderson, for being a patient and positive teacher of your craft. I have wanted to try batik for over twenty years, and I can't think of a more memorable way to have finally done it than to spend the day enjoying the Barbados breeze and listening to roosters crow. I am thrilled with my 'masterpiece' and love the work that my friends created . . . it's seems it would be impossible to be disappointed with anything we could make under your tutelage. Thank you! Last Thursday I attended the workshop of Mr. Reece for the first time. I was curious what would come out from my picture
because my teacher always told me to use more darker colours, how good that I followed his instructions. Today, when I saw the result, I was really stuned, could hardly believe that this bright,almost colour bursting piece of art was done by myself. It will get
the best place on the living room wall of my Barbados holiday home.
Next winter, when I come back here, I will do my second batic class.

Dear Henderson, Happy New Year to you!
We had a wonderful experience with you and Veronica at the Batik Studio Workshop in December. Despite the fact that neither of us had drawn since leaving school (which was a long time ago!) with your excellent help and guidance we both managed to produce reasonable batik prints. If you remember, we are planning to make a couple of our designs up into cushion covers for our grandchildren. It was a great, fun and unusual way to enjoy some quality Bajan time during our holiday - with lunch and refreshments thrown in!

Took the opportunity to take Henderson Reece's batik class while on vacation in Barbados. His studio is located adjacent to the Earthworks Pottery - a breezy hillside location with fabulous views of the island. Henderson is not only a talented artist but a kind and patient teacher.
Class sizes are small so you get lots of individual attention. I have no formal art training but it didn't seem to matter. Henderson helped me with the charcoal sketch for my "masterpiece" and the fun began. We then had a demonstration on working with the wax pen (Tjanting) and practiced on a sample piece.
Henderson provided some excellent suggestions on dye colours and blending. We added a second layer of wax and dye and we left my piece to dry. Henderson delivered the finished piece (sans wax) to my hotel. Class fees include a delicious lunch at the cafe upstairs. I left Barbados with a unique island souvenir and a great memory of a wonderful day. Thanks, Henderson! You are the best!

We love the flying fish batik we purchased from you. It hangs in a place of honor in our dinning room (across from a colorful Britto we also love). With the deep red walls in the back and the light from the window, sometimes the batik seems to light up and glow (we did not put glass over it but left it framed and accessible).. however, the attached photo, tho not great quality, shows an interesting contrast between the warmth of Barbados in your artwork and the blizzard of snow piling up outside here in New York.
It keeps us warm and thinking of Barbados - thank you.

I attended the 1 Day Batik Workshop in January 2015 along with my mother-in-law Ann and we had such a fantastic day! I can not recommend this workshop enough and I encourage anyone who is thinking about doing this to DO IT! Henderson is a great teacher, very patient and he even coaxed artistic talent out of Ann (a self-confessed non-arty person). We are both 'over the moon' with our creations and we will treasure them! The workshop is set in such a beautiful location you can't help but be inspired. The cafe upstairs has wonderful views and the lunch was lovely. Tuition, all materials, lunch and refreshments was included. All in all, it was a wonderful day, thank you Henderson! I hope to see you again, next year! Regards Sarah

A few of us decided to do Henderson's Batik workshop this year, and we are so happy we did, it is definitely one of our best memories! Henderson is such a genuine person and went above and beyond to ensure we had the best experience possible. It's hard to do the workshop justice with a written review, but everything was truly fantastic, from the outdoor studio and beautiful countryside view; to dipping our Tjantings in hot wax to make those first markings, to the excitement of seeing our completed pieces, it was so much fun learning about Batik and having the opportunity to get to know Henderson. We came away with some beautiful artwork, many great memories and a new appreciation for Batik art.

I took the workshop on a vacation to Barbados. Not only was it a lot of fun, but I enjoyed learning a new skill and learning about the history of the art. I would highly recommend it, though it would be best that the participant be at least an teenager, as the hot wax probably isn't the best for kids. It's a great experience and I found it very educational.

My Mom and I did the batik workshop while we were in Barbados last week and can I just say that it was a highlight of our trip! We loved the class -- learned a ton -- and we loved Henderson and Veronica! In addition to being a very talented artist, Henderson was also a fantastic teacher. He went over every detail of the process with us so that I feel confident I could recreate the process at home.
The location was gorgeous -- an open air studio looking out over the valley, surrounded by beautiful island greenery and flowers. Lunch was lovely and everything tastes better when you are looking out on such a beautiful view! Our finished "masterpieces" were stunning! We were very impressed by how great they looked! :) And it was so much fun -- we laughed all day, and at the end of the day we had a gorgeous piece of Barbados to take home with us as well as the memories of a wonderful day. Best. Souvenir. EVER.
